THE MODERN UTOPIAN

THE DOCUMENTARY, EARTHLINGS, MUST BE REQUIRED VIEWING

BY ALL OF US.

(SEE MY REVIEW AND PETITIONS BELOW)

HUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS IS THEIR BIRTHRIGHT

FIRST STEP:

Congress must pass a law that bans abuse of any animals for any purpose, creating the appropriate oversight with severe penalties for infractions as delineated in the law.

(Please sign the petition below,  or go to petitionspeak.com for this petition and others).   Public awareness of the abuse  - which is happening every day - is most often the first step in putting pressure on our legislators to take action.

EARTHLINGS

The most important (and horrific) documentary ever made. The producers could not find a commercial distributor and no cable television station would air it. The film is about nature, animals,          and humankind.  Developed in five parts.
Part 1: Pets Most pets are so badly raised by "puppy mills".  Any one can breed animals. There  are no regulations. Conditions are very often filty and crowded.  27 million dogs and cats become homeless every year. (7 million die in the streets. 16 million are killed in Pounds. Over 60 thousand every day.) Gas chambers are often used to kill the animals.   This is a painful way to die.  GAS CHAMBERS MUST BE OUTLAWED.  Also, people who abandon animals or mistreat them must be prosecuted, fined  and even jailed.

Part 2: Food.  Slaughterhouses are operated with no compassion for the animals. Maiming and treating them like non-living things.  There are no regulations.  Most usually the animals are crowded together and watch as others - and then they - are being killed. (10,000./minute; 6 billion a year in the USA alone.)These animals are branded, dehorned and transported with no concern for how they must feel. Cows are often still alive after they are strung up and bled.  Milking cows are never allowed to move out of their stalls. They usually die within 4 years.       A "factory farm "manufactures" pigs (between 50 & 600 thousand pigs per year each farm),. Factory farm conditions are horrendous with unbelievable cruelty inflicted on the pigs.   Slitting animals throats is the least expensive way to kill and the most painful as the animal does not die quickly. This must be outlawed.

8.5 million of poultry are killed each week.  Overcrowding results in their very inhumane treatment. (60 to 90,000 are crowded together in a small building.) Hens who lay eggs are isolated in "battery cages" where they cannot even spread their wings. Often times the poultry is clubbed or their throats slit and bled to death. Clubbing obviously must be outlswed as well.

With seafood, we need regulations to minimize the amount of waste and contaminates in the water supply of the seafood we eat.  Whales and dphins are still being killed.  We need to penalize anyone,  including a country like Japan, for s continuing this slaughter.

ALL OF THESE PRACTICES NEED OVERSIGHT AND REGULATIONS,

PART 3: Clothes.   Leather for making clothes often comes from India.  The cruelty inflicted on these animals is unimaginable. How they treat and end up killing these animals is no less than torture.

We must prohibit the importation and sale of any products without  clear evidence that the animals hasve been treated with care and humanity.

Part 4: Entertainment Seems the only concern we have is to give ourselves pleasure, ignoring completely how the animals are affected.  Bull fighting is an obvious example of this, although few people pay attention to how the bull actually suffers in the process.  People pay no attention whatsoever regarding how performing animals in circuses and amusement parks are trained and treated. Oftentime quite brutally.  There is little or no oversight or regulations here either - as with amost all treatment of animals for pleasure or nutrition.  And, then, finally there is
Part 5: Science. Vivisection experiments with animals are made           to find cures for humans. Once again torture is justified even when unnecessary. (Today over 10 billion animals per year, 19,000 every minute are used in scientific experiments!)   Laboratory tests have       no regard for the feelings of the animals. There must be a sysem for requiring any use of an aniimal in an experiemnt to justify such use.  And, the animal must be treated in a way to minimuze pain.

All creatures suffer pain, regardless of intelligence.

(Some animals are even more sensitive to pain that humans.)
All five parts of this documentray show the reality that we want to avoid.  The producers used hidden camera to go where the public is not allowed to see what is happening. You will find this heart-breaking.  Even if you have only half a heart or no heart at all, this may be the most difficult film you will ever watch.
"People do not want to find out the truth."
Pain and suffering should be minimized irrespective of the race, sex,     or species of the being that suffers.    In this documentary we see no attention at all paid to the suffering of animals.  Peter Singer, Professor at Princeton University says.
"If I could make everyone in the world see one film,

                I'd make them see Earthlings".
Gretchen Wyler, the Humane Society of the USA, says
"Earthlings is the definitive film of all time that Americans                     do not want to see."

Absolutely true.   Everyone should see this film and make an effort to change the way we treat animals. Animals may sustain us but we need to deal with them humanely.

WE MUST PETITION - TODAY! - OUR GOVERNMENTS (FEDERAL & STATE) TO IMMEDIATELY CREATE REGULATIONS AND OVERSIGHT TO PREVENT THE TORTURE AND INHUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS.  ALL PLACES WHERE ANIMALS ARE KEPT MUST HAVE A MINIMUM STANDARD OF CLEANLINESS AND PROVIDE GERM-FREE, UNCROWDED CONDITIONS FOR THEM.

This is not just for the animals sake, it is for our own sake as well.  See this film and do something about it!

NOTE:  On the positive side, see the film, TEMPLE GRANDIN, the story of how one woman who  has demonstrated how cattle can be slaughtered in a humane way.

Her approqch needs to be legislated by Congress and signed

by the President NOW.

MEAT ON OUR TABLES
Attention meat-eaters!
Do you know what goes into your meat?
Worse: Do you know how animals are produced, tortured and slaughtered? The way animals are treated and killed is tragic.

Some people might become vegetarians but the real Solution   is for government to oversee and regulate slaughterhouses
and animal factory farms to insure animals are treated humanely in the process.

People who are not educated on how meat gets to their table via their local grocery stores and butcher shop may dismiss the following petition. Others could simply dismiss the idea that species other than us also have feelings. Those who have pets should understand that all animals have feelings and experience pain.

Could you please sign the petition for the human treatment of animals.
MoveOn.org has also indicated a willingness to help circulate this petition.
Won't you also please FORWARD this to your email and Facebook friends?
If you have any doubt about how urgently this is needed, see the documentary, EARTHLINGS.
Petitions do make a difference even if only to make people aware of what is happening.

“Be it resolved that regulations and oversight must

be created to protect all animal life
from inhumane treatment particularly in slaughterhouses and animal factory farms."

HERE IS A MORE EXTENSIVE PETITION:

Protecting animals from inhumane treatment.
Please view the documentary EARTHLINGS to understand the need.

I created a petition which says:

As we move forward in the 21st century to feed and clothe the billions of humans who live on the planet, let us be mindful not to neglect the animals on whom we rely. Thus, be it resolved that regulations and oversight must be created to protect all animal life from inhumane treatment.
1) Slaughterhouses and “factory farms” - for the production and killing of animals for food - must be subject to regulations and oversight that will ensure a clean, germ-free, un-crowded environment for these animals, and a humane and pain-free death.
2) Scientific experiments with animals must be based on valid and justifiable reasons, and in no case should animals be subject to torture.
3) Abandoned pets must never be killed using gas chambers and those who wantonly abandon them will be subject to criminal prosecution.
4) All animals trained for the purpose of entertainment and those used in the production of products, such as clothing, must be treated humanely and with care. Any violation of such treatment must be punishable by fines and/or incarceration. Importation of animal products must be denied, if evidence of inhumane treatment can be demonstrated.
Finally, we as humans understand animals, like us, feel pain and should be subject to minimal pain by us as fellow creatures on this planet.
