THE MODERN UTOPIAN

"TO REMAIN NEUTRAL IN SITUATIONS OF INJUSTICE, IS TO BE COMPLICIT  IN THAT INJUSTICE."      - Desmond Tutu

THE MIDDLE CLASS IS THE FOUNDATION OF DEMOCRACY

FIRST STEP:  Enact legislation that will require corporations ro reveal to their shareholders and members the ratio of all executive pay to that of their average worker.  Shareholders and workers given the option to require an adjustment in their pay.  (Good luck with this one!)
"For more than a quarter century after WWII, the fruits of America's productivity were shared with average working people, year in and year out.  Not anymore.

" ...take a look at a chart of almost anything, and you'll notice that right around 1981, things take a sharp turn in the wrong direction — that is, for just about everyone but the wealthiest 1%."
The problem has escalated so that conservatives have floated the notion that states should be allowed to declare bankruptcy to escape their pension obligations to firefighters, cops, teachers and, yes, sanitation workers.
The assault on public employee unions is the current phase of a forty-year class war in America by the rich against the rest of us.
It is of a piece with the steady dismantling of our progressive taxation system and the explosion of economic inequality."

FROM FACEBOOK:
Why is it there isn't an actual revolution in the streets going  on in America?? These guys have made no secret of their war against America and Americans for the sake of one thing only and that is the greed to give to themselves and the rich and corporations!  We've got HUGE sums of revenue available at our finger tips, it's called taxes and those taxes could be put on those that can afford it-- the rich--the corporations who HAVE all of the money but instead these Republicans keep stealing more away from the workers, away from the poor, and hand it out to the rich. Then they complain about Obama wanting to 'redistribute' the wealth! This is nothing less than war on America.   - by James I.
WHY?  "People are 1) Wimps 2) Sheep 3) Brainwashed 4)in Denial 5) Still hoping they too will be part of that upper 1% some day 6) convinced somehow they really only deserve    the life they have, that somehow they are not working hard enough to expect more.
Give me time, I'll think of more.     - by Toni N.A.
BRING BACK
ANTI-MONOPOLY LAWS
BREAK UP THE BANKS AND MEDIA MONOPOLIES.
Time to re-instate anti-monopoly laws and stop the mergers.
If Conservatives were as passionate about cutting military spending
and taxing the mega-corporations and the wealthy as they are about cutting social programs like Planned Parenthood, I might be able to
listen to them.  Let's get out priorities straight, please!

Us "reasoning" people who like to base our decisions on facts, just don't get it.  Politics and religion, both are not motivated by facts or reason.   For the right-wing and the tea party and the fundamentalists "sheep",     it's all about their ideological myths.  For the rich and powerful, it is all about controlling the sheep.   (Read Phillip Wylie's A Nation of Sheep" written in the 1950s!)

The average salary for CEOs is 11 million dollars a year. For a Navy Seal that killed BenLaden, 55 thousand dollars.   I betcha that Navy Seal paid    a higher tax rate than most of those CEOs.

New data released by the IRS reveals that, over a period of 12 years, tax rates for the richest 400 Americans were effectively cut in half.   In 1995, the richest 400 Americans paid, on average, 29.93% of their income in federal taxes. In 2007, the last year for which the IRS has released data, the richest 400 Americans paid just 16.63%....  If the richest 400 Americans simply paid the same effective rate in 2007 as they did in 1995, the government would have collected over $3 billion in additional revenue. Some millionaires agree that the reduction has been unfair and have formed a group, Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength, to demand higher taxes.   -  by Judd Legum
